Inspection and Repair of Cracks on Transmission Housing

Transmission gearbox differential housing must be no cracks. The inspection of cracks is generally through a magnetic detection machine, or by an external viewing and tapping on housing. If cracks don't extend to the bearing hole, they can be repaired by adhesive bonding and screw filling methods. While cracks on important parts need welding. When in welding process, the housing must be heated ahead to prevent too large local stress causing further cracking or deformation. The housing must be replaced when cracks appeared on important parts, such as the bearing hole, dowel holes, threaded holes and other areas.

The materials of gearbox differential housing parts, due to the lower hardness, long-term use, frequent disassembly or improper fastening, partial excessive force and other reasons, could easily lead to damages on housing threaded holes. Transmission casing threaded holes damages include inlet and outlet oil plug hole thread damages, as well as connecting bolt threaded bore damages. The damages of threaded holes and worn thread can be repaired by reaming tapping or re-drilling and tapping after welding.
