What Causes the Shift Lever to Vibrate?

Many drivers place the hand on the shift lever in driving and then feel the vibration, it is abnormal, there can be two reasons for this shift lever shake.

In general, this is because the car driver has incorrect driving habits. The gearbox keeps rotating inside, the hand holding on the shift mechanism will impose an additional force, make the whole set of shift mechanism deviated from the normal gear position, to contact with the rotating parts, resulting in the vibration of shift lever.

If you gently touch the shift lever with the feeling of shaking, a serious condition is that after releasing the hand, the shift lever is obviously shaking, and if so, we generally consider whether the gearshift lock is appropriate adjusted, if you exclude the problem of other mechanism and focus on the gearbox failure, mainly to check whether the related sizes of parts in shift mechanism are abnormal, such as the synchronizer, whether the two sides of the groove holding gearbox shift fork are uneven, or whether there is deformation of the gearbox shift fork having abnormal contact with the synchronizer. Under normal circumstances, the fork and other gearshift mechanism keep a gap with the rotating synchronizer after gear shifting. If any contact is made for any cause (design, part size, assembly problem, lock adjustment, etc.), the vibration is transmitted.

In the second case, this vibration is really not normal, you can go to the 4S shop for car repair. However, this probability is very low, because the transmission, out from the factory to being installed in the vehicles, go through several detection before releasing.
