Five Machining Processes of Car Gears

It is known to all that the gearbox is a key mechanism of the automobile, because it always directly affects the oil consumption. High precision gearbox are very expensive, the gears alone have different machining processes, let alone other large-sized or more complicated China automotive OEM parts. 1.Gear hobbing, often used for cylindrical gear processing, others like straight or helical gears are possible too. This type of gear is mainly used in the transmission, the technology is characterized by simple debugging and relatively low cost, it is now the most widespread technology.


2.Milling gear is for spiral bevel gear processing, this processing method takes a long time. The special milling gear machine used to make spiral bevel gears is very expensive, each costs about 5million rmb, and processing a set of such gears need at least three machines, but there is no better way to form such a gear, and possible to get higher efficiency by improving raw materials and tool quality.


3.Grinding gear is unlike the hobbing and milling gear, it is a hot post-processing technology. This kind of gear costs more, the processing time is longer, and the precision of grinding gear is higher. It is mainly used in the car gearbox, and its rear gear has a small transmission error that can maintain a low roar in the high-speed running. An imported cylindrical gear grinding machine costs about 3 million yuan, and the spiral bevel gear grinding machine is as high as 6 million yuan.


4.The gear-lapping is also a kind of hot post-processing technology, by adding the grinding agent between the two meshing teeth surfaces, and make the two gears rolling so to smoothed out the gear surface. This kind of technology can directly obtain a lower meshing noise, compared with grinding gears, it is more economical and efficient. A domestic lapping gear machine takes around 400,000 rmb.


5.Gear shaping is mainly for internal straight gear ring machining, and it also works to products that can't be machined by hobbing. This kind of technology is suitable for making double gears and multiple gears. But the downside of this process is that it cannot make the dry cutting process.
